Twitter Ranking Tools Reviewed: Twitter Grader

Posted in Social Media Marketing

Twitter has a number of tools that do everything from check your rank to follow or monitor tweets based on keywords. This post however, is going to focus on the checking of your ranking in Twitter. Now these tools aren't perfect, but they do give you a general idea of how well you rank amongst your twitter peers. The first tool that comes to mind, and one of my favorites is "Twitter Grader". Twitter Grader takes a bit of a Google approach to ranking twitter profiles. It bases its rank not only on the number of followers you have, but also on the number of tweeps you are following. In addition it bases its decision on other factors as well like how often you tweet. If that weren't enough it also checks to see how complete your profile is, and uses that as one of its determining factors in ranking twitter profiles. The best part is you don't have to include your login and password to Twitter. All you have to do is enter your Twitter User Name into the text box as seen below.

After you have entered your user name into the text box shown above, Twitter Grader, will go through a series of steps checking each of the metrics I mentioned above and finally come up with a ranking or grade for your twitter profile. You will get a screen similar to the one below which shows how well I ranked at the time of this post.

Another nice feature of this Twitter ranking tool is how, not only does it display the rank based on the number of tweeters that have had their rank checked, but it also displays a perecentage grade. So in my case it ranks my profile higher than 99.4% of the profiles that have been ranked on Twitter Grader. Now some might look at this like a negative, but this tool does not rank based on total profiles on twitter. It ranks it based on total profiles that have been ranked using Twitter Grader. This is better in my opinion because it ranks your profile based on active users. There is a tool that I will post about in the next day or so that will rank your profile based on the total users on twitter.

Looking at the screen above you can see other stats like how many followers you have, how many people you are following, and how many updates or tweets you have posted to Twitter. If you click on the location link it will also tell you how well you rank amongst people in your area. Below that is a link to the website on your Twitter account, and again the following you have, and the followers. Then you can see a Tweet Cloud or a tag cloud of the most common phrases used in your tweets.

This could be used for research for a product or niche. Lets say you search twitter and find a profile that you want to know more about. You can use the Twitter Grader tool to get these stats on that profile. So for instance, if someone tweeted a lot about "social media marketing" then you could use that to determine which accounts would be good to send tweets to about the same subject. The reason that is valuable is you can use the Twitter search tool to search for keywords in tweets. Someone else could be using that same tool not only to search for that tweeter, but also to search for "social media marketing", because they tweet so much about it. Then because you included that person in your tweet about "social media marketing" that person will see your tweet in the search results as well. If your tweet includes a link to your product about "social media marketing" there is a chance they could purchase that product. So as you can see "Twitter Grader" is a very powerful tool, and should be added to your arsenal of Twitter Tools. To check out Twitter Grader visit http://twitter.grader.com.
